The purpose of the Pastoral Care department is to provide support to pupils through the trials and tribulations of school life.
Our Reflection, Reset and Re-Engage Provision
At The Archbishop Lanfranc Academy, we are committed to maintaining a calm, safe and purposeful learning environment where every student can succeed. Our Reflection, Reset and Re-engage provision is designed to support students when they need additional guidance to meet the high standards and expectations of the school.
Each space has a distinct purpose, helping students to reflect on their choices, regulate their behaviour, take responsibility for their actions, and successfully return to learning. Through a combination of support, accountability and restorative practice, we work with students to help them learn from mistakes, rebuild relationships and re-engage positively with both their education and the wider school community.
Our aim is always to help students move forward successfully, ensuring they have the skills, understanding and support needed to achieve their full potential.
Reflect
The reflect room provides a calm and supportive environment for students who may need time away from mainstream lessons to regulate their emotions, manage concerns, and refocus on learning. It offers a dedicated space where students can access support from staff and develop strategies to help them overcome barriers that may be affecting their engagement in school.
During their time in the reflect room, students may take part in a range of activities designed to reduce anxiety, build resilience, and support positive self-regulation. Staff work alongside students to help them identify challenges, develop effective coping strategies, and prepare for a successful return to lessons.
The reflect room is an important part of our pastoral support provision and ensures that students receive the right support at the right time. Our aim is to ensure that every student feels supported, listened to, and ready to learn. By providing a structured and nurturing environment, we help students return to the classroom focused, confident, and prepared to engage positively in school life.
Re-engage
The re-engage room provides students with a structured environment away from mainstream lessons for a limited period of time when their behaviour has had a significant impact on their learning or the learning of others.
The purpose of the Re-Engage Room is not simply to sanction poor behaviour, but to help students reflect on their actions, understand the impact of their choices, and take responsibility for their behaviour. During their time in the room, students will complete their academic work, engage in restorative reflection activities, and receive support to identify strategies for future success.
Our aim is to help students re-engage positively with their learning, their peers, and the wider school community. The re-engage room forms an important part of our reintegration process, ensuring that students return to lessons with a clear understanding of expectations and a plan for moving forward successfully.
By focusing on accountability, reflection, and positive change, the re-engage room helps students reset behaviours and rejoin the school community ready to succeed.
Reset
Students may be directed to the Reset room following a removal from a lesson, an incident that requires reflection, completion of statements, or support with addressing concerns such as behaviour, conduct, or uniform standards. The purpose is to give students the opportunity to pause, consider the impact of their actions, and make positive choices moving forward. The reset room forms an important part of our wider pastoral and behaviour support system. Its primary aim is to help students reset their behaviour and mindset so they can return to lessons ready to learn, contribute positively, and achieve success both in and beyond the classroom.
Medical Help
Working closely with our SEND team, we provide tailored support for students with identified medical needs to ensure they can access education safely and successfully. Where appropriate, support plans are developed, outlining any necessary adjustments, interventions, or provisions required during the school day.
To ensure support is appropriate and effective, medical evidence from a healthcare professional is required before adjustments can be implemented. Our aim is to work collaboratively with families and external agencies to ensure every student receives the support they need to thrive in school.
Vulnerable Children
The safety, wellbeing, and success of every child is at the heart of our work. We provide targeted support for vulnerable students and work closely with families, social care professionals, and external agencies to ensure that children receive the help they need at the right time.
Our safeguarding and pastoral teams actively support students who are subject to Child Protection (CP) Plans, Child in Need (CIN) Plans, Early Help (EH) support, and those who are Looked After Children (LAC). This includes regular communication with families and professionals, attendance at multi-agency meetings, contributions to assessments and reviews, and the delivery of bespoke pastoral, wellbeing, and educational interventions within school.
We have a dedicated member of staff who oversees and champions the progress, wellbeing, and educational outcomes of our Looked After Children. They attend all relevant meetings, including Personal Education Plan (PEP) reviews, work closely with carers and social workers, and ensure that appropriate support is in place to help students achieve their full potential.
Through effective collaboration, early identification of need, and tailored support, we strive to remove barriers to learning, promote positive outcomes, and ensure that every student feels safe, supported, and able to thrive within our school community.
