Awards Evening

On Monday 29th June, a beautiful summer evening, the Archbishop Lanfranc Academy held its first awards’ ceremony to celebrate the wonderful achievements of its pupils over this last year. In all, 183 students were honoured for their academic successes, continued efforts and outstanding attendance. An additional 6 were picked out for individual, special recognition awards, they were:

The Principal’s Award for service to the Academy – Bradley Lemon 10P
Governor’s Award for service to the Academy – Morolake Adefioye 11P
Daniel Broomfield Memorial Award for Outstanding Potential in Sport – Corey Lendor 7P
Anne Hibbert Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement in Mathematics – Sheam Subanthiran 11T
Kathleen Williams Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement in English – Sampavi Premendra 11I.

The music for the evening was provided by the Academy’s Jazz Ensemble which opened the proceedings with a glorious rendition of ‘Moon Dance’. They followed this later with a soulful version of ‘Stay with Me’, with vocal accompaniment from Safeel Sadique and finally, demonstrating their diversity, they went on to close the evening and capture huge appreciation from the packed hall, with a toe tapping favourite, ‘Oye Coma Va’.

Mr del Rio (Principal) provided a warm welcome to all and expressed his delight in celebrating the evening’s achievers. A vote of thanks was given by Dhrusti Patel (Head Girl elect) and Bradley Lemon (Head Boy elect). The guest speaker for the evening was His Honour, Judge Christopher Kinch QC (Chair of Governors for the Academy) who shared two anecdotes of persistence, determination and self-belief leading to possibilities and opportunities for achievement.

The evening was as successful as the pupils! The celebration was one of admiration and pride for parents, staff and guests for the excellent outcomes attained by the pupils and, of course, for the pupils who should be very proud of themselves.

Congratulations to all.
