9 more sleeps until the end of term, 16 more sleeps until Christmas Day, the countdown has begun! Here at the Archbishop Lanfranc Academy we kicked off the proceedings with some lunchtime carols and some festive stalls.
Ms Yangopoulos provided a wonderful mix of traditional carols and more recent Christmas songs and was accompanied by a handful of singers whom, together provided a sprinkling of festive atmosphere.
The stalls were extremely popular with staff and pupils, all focused on winning prizes from the tombola, the human fruit machine and lucky dip and scooping beautiful handmade crafts for bargain prices. The human fruit machine confounded a few to begin with but once the human version of technology was mastered it became a very popular challenge to score 2 or three matching fruits from the fruit bowls. More challenging however, was the estimation of how many skittles were in the bowl. All the guesses were very close but the winning pupil, Preeya Singh from year 7, bagged the booty by being only a few digits away from the actual amount – Well done Preeya!
Away from the excitement of winning, scooping luxuries and personal enjoyment though, was a wonderful collection of non-perishable items; food and toiletries. These were donations from pupils and staff who want to help make someone else’s Christmas just a little more comfortable. The donations are to be given to Croydon Food Bank, an organisation which helps to provide meals for local families whom otherwise might not have food at Christmas. The generosity shown so far has been impressive and touching and many more pupils have pledged to bring in their donations in the next couple of days.
Many thanks to everyone who helped make the start of Christmas such fun, thanks also to all those who have given so generously – your kindness and care is a great reminder of what makes Lanfranc special.
Christmas wishes for love and peace to all.
